The Shree Yantra has a divine origin and lineage. Shree Yantra is the symbolic form of all Gods and Goddesses. It shows the origin and formation of the entire Universe. It was possessed by Brahma, the creator of the Universe and praised by Vishnu the lord of the Earth. It is connected deeply with the Ancient Art of Vaastu and has been specifically mentioned in the 'Vaastu Shastra'. All constructions based on Vaastu must essentially have Shree Yantra in it. In the center of the inner most circle is a point around which are nine triangles, of which 5 triangles point downwards (towards Shakti or power) and four triangles point upwards (towards Shiva).

Downward pointing five triangles symbolize five elements, five sense, five organs, five Tartars and five Birth. Upward pointing 4 triangles symbolize life, soul, bone-marrow and genes. Both 4 upward and five downward triangles are representative of nine basic instincts.

In the Shree Yantra there is one petalled lotus and another 16-petalled lotus. 8-Petalled lotus inside and 16-petalled lotus outside. Together they constitute the Shree Yantra. The upward triangle indicates fire element, circles indicate Air, points indicate Sky, base indicates earth and downward triangles indicate water. The entire Shree Yantra shows the complete life cycle of the Universe.
